ROO ADVENTURES 2OO9

ELK NECK STATE PARK - New Year's Eve

We finally did it.  Went out and celebrated New Years right.  Camping with our RV.Net group and folks from the Mid-Atlantic Campers group at Elk Neck SP.  The weather was clear but between the 50 MPH winds and below freezing temps,New Year's Eve was almost unbearable.    I even had to wear clothes.  Well, almost.  I could not just wear shorts and no shirt during the night's festivities.  Long pants, sweatshirt, cap, gloves and whatever else were absolutely necessary articles of attire.  The 30 sites on the loop were full and a good time was had by all.  Can't wait for next year.

ELK NECK STATE PARK - February

Another great weekend in Winter!

ELK NECK STATE PARK - March

      And more of the same!

NATURAL BRIDGE, VA/PIGEON FORGE & GATLINBURG, TN - Easter Break

We headed down to Tennessee for 10 days with a friend from work and his family.  Stayed in VA overnight both ways to save some driving time.  Gatlinburg was very nice.  Their aquarium was awesome.  We had snow during our day there.  Dollywood was a fun place and a bargain for the price.  Good food, entertainment and the rides were exceptional.  There were severe tornadoes coming through TN and GA in the middle of our stay and there were some concerns.  Watching the news and listening to NOAA radio was very stressful.  There were warnings in the county where we were.  Dollywood is on our list for another visit.

EAGLES PEAK - April

Scott and I headed to one of our fav CGs one week after getting back from TN.  Alex decided to opt out.  Scott was doing nothing at college and picking him up was easy.  Only a 10 minute detour off I-83 to get him.  It was Public Service Appreciation Weekend at the Peak.  Always a good time.

SPRING GULCH - May

Our RV.Net group got together but due to weather and some cancellations we did not have the turnout we had anticipated.  I was flying solo on this one.  Still, a trip to the Shady Maple is always a good thing!

EAGLES PEAK - June

The Peak was like a ghost town in late June.  Maybe the economy or the fact July 4th weekend was the week following.  No one was around and we had several cold days which made jumping in the pool difficult.  This was to be a RV.Net event but only three families could make it as others had last minute issues.  It is what it is!  Alex and I got to the Shady Maple and the Green Dragon flea market though.  We also got some electronic goodies from Wal-Mart!

TALL PINES/BAINBRIDGE, NY - August

Our third RV.Net gathering in NY and the second year at Tall Pines.  We had a lot of rain, several families cancelled out but we picked up a few more as well.  Good food, good company and good times.  I picked up some sort of bug for a few days which slowed me down a bit.

CHERRYSTONE - August

This year we tried three weeks at our fav VA campground.  Scott stayed two weeks.  Cherrystone is not as entertaining as when the boys were younger.  I also found three weeks to be a bit much particularly after a week in NY.

ELK NECK - September

Third annual Elk Neck RV.Net Rally.  Two years running it has rained like heck on our Saturday festivities.  Rain has been an issue every year no matter what day.  The weekends before and after were gorgeous.  We made the most of it and still had good food, drink, prizes and moments.  We have outgrown the only full service loop and may have to start thinking of another location.  There are not enough sites for all the folks who have caught on to our party!
